A holistic approach from Grade R to 12

• Foundation Phase (Grade R): Fundamental skills must be developed during the first year to prepare learners for future success. The main focus is on gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and sensory development, which are integrated into the three core subjects: Home Language, Mathematics, and Life Skills. This approach promotes the holistic development of learners and helps ensure school readiness.
• Foundation Phase (Grades 1–3): At this early stage, the focus is on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and foundational skills in Mathematics, Life Skills, and both Home Language (Afrikaans or English) and First Additional Language (Afrikaans, English or isiZulu) in a way that encourages creativity and curiosity.
• Intermediate Phase (Grades 4–6): This phase introduces learners to Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Technology, and Life Skills alongside continued instruction in Mathematics, Home Language, and First Additional Language.
• Senior Phase (Grades 7–9): At this point, the curriculum expands to include Economic and Management Sciences, Creative Arts, and Life Orientation. It builds on the subjects from the Intermediate Phase, helping learners discover their interests and strengths.
• Further Education and Training Phase – or FET (Grades 10–12): This final stage of schooling allows learners to choose from close to 20 elective subjects, including Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Accounting, Business Studies, Geography, History, and more.

Since Impaq aligns its offering fully with the national curriculum, learners can easily transition from a mainstream school and back should they wish to do so.

Assessment and certification

Grade 10 to 12 learners are registered by Impaq with the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI), an Umalusi-accredited assessment body, for the FET Phase. This ensures that learners can complete this phase and ultimately the National Senior Certificate (NSC) at the end of their Grade 12 year.
