A lot of research was done on home education especially in the USA, but also in South Africa. Some of the fast facts on home education are:
- Home Education is the fastest growing form of education. About 3 million in the USA and 300 000 in South Africa.
- The home-educated typically score 15 to 25 percentile points above public-school students on standardized academic achievement tests, regardless of the income of the parents or the academic qualifications of the parents.
- Home-educated are doing well, typically above average, on measures of social, emotional, and psychological development. Research measures include peer interaction, self-concept, leadership skills, family cohesion, participation in community service, and self-esteem.
