Professor dop die toets

Onderstaande brief is deur Leendert van Oostrum geskryf aan Beeld, as reaksie op die aanval van prof. Jonathan Jansen op Christelike onderwys en tuisonderwys. Leendert van Oostrum is voorsitter van die Pestalozzi Trust.

Professor Jonathan Jansen se verkrampte onderrok hang weer 'n myl ver uit in sy artikel "Dié universiteit hou gevaar in" (Beeld 5/9/12). Daarin trek hy te velde teen die idee van 'n Christelike Afrikaanse universiteit en teen tuisonderwys.

In sy drang om sy premoderne idees oor die Sosiologie van die Onderwys te verkondig, verklap hy 'n growwe onkunde oor die onderwerp waaroor hy skryf.

Onder die meer as vyftig  geregistreerde private universiteite in Suid-Afrika is daar een wat reeds amper twintig jaar lank, deur medium van Afrikaans, geakkrediteerde grade in gereformeerde teologie en in die sielkunde en opvoedkunde aanbied. Ek weet ook van private universiteite wat sonder skroom verkondig dat hulle onderskeidelik vanuit Katolieke, Baptiste en Adventiste-perspektiewe onderrig. Beskou die professor hulle ook as "gevaarlik"?

Met sulke dwase uitsprake loop die professor die gevaar om die Malema van die intelligensia te word. Hy kry 'n "G" vir sy huiswerk.
Waar dit tuisonderwys aangaan, wil ek die prof graag nooi na die eerste globale konferensie oor tuisonderwys wat in November vanjaar in Berlyn aangebied word, en wat deur beleidmakers vanoor die wêreld, insluitende onderwysnavorsers en parlementslede uit vele lande bygewoon en toegespreek sal word. Die hoofspreker was tot onlangs Direkteur-Generaal van Onderwys in Finland, wat deur UNESCO beskou word as die land met die beste onderwys ter wêreld.
